ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

Since the first release ISO 9001 over 30 years ago, by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), more than one million organizations worldwide have adopted the principles and achieved certification to the requirements of ISO 9001, Quality Management System.

Today’s version provides organizations with a comprehensive process-focused framework upon which you can build business processes that lead to the successful achievement of organizational objectives.

Organizations that implement an effective business management system create a confidence among their stakeholders in the capability of their processes and the reliability of their products and or services; while at the same time, benefiting from improved risk management. In addition, an effective business management system serves to create the basis for continual improvement leading to increased customer satisfaction and ultimately to the success of the organization.

The ISO 9000 Family of Standards includes:

  • ISO 9000 which serves to identify and define the fundamentals and vocabulary for a Business Management System (QMS);
  • ISO 9001 which specifies the requirements for a QMS where the capability to provide a product and or service that meets customer and regulatory mandates needs to be demonstrated;
  • ISO 9004 which provides valuable guidance on the application of ISO 9001 that directly contributes to enhanced customer satisfaction.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management

Environmental sustainability is one of the biggest challenges we face in our global community. Organizations are conducting business within complex legal structures, while stakeholder demands are increasing and environmental performance expectations are becoming more onerous. To operate effectively in this environment organizations are now required to demonstrate proactive management of the environmental impacts of their business activities. Effective environmental management involves incorporating environmentally responsible practices into everyday business processes.

What is an Environmental Management System (EMS)?

An Environmental Management System is a framework, which can be integrated with existing business processes to effectively identify, measure, manage and control environmental impacts and hence environmental risks. An Environmental Management System also establishes the means for improving performance and moving towards environmental sustainability through best practice such as ISO 14001.

The International Standard ISO 14001:2004, Environmental Management Systems lists the requirements that most organizations set out to achieve.

Australian Forestry Standard

If Australian Forest Certification Scheme (AFCS) certified wood and timber based products is passing through a chain of processors to manufacturers, the Chain of Custody (CoC) standard and audits to the standard exist to ensure proof of origin. The AFCS through its AFS logo or PEFC logo provides manufacturers, Pelo Furniture and our customers with an assurance that the wood or timber based product has been sourced from a sustainably managed forest and tracked through the supply chain to ensure it maintains an unbroken chain of custody.

Audits of Chain of Custody must be done annually to retain certification, and the independence of these audits is assured by JAS-ANZ or IAF accredited certification bodies. AFCS certified wood and timber based products are high quality, cost effective, Australian grown, and readily available in a large range of species and products, such as decorative veneers, timber framing and flooring.

Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, membership based, non-profit organisation founded in 1993 by environmentalists, social interest groups, indigenous peoples’ organisations, responsible retailers and leading forest management companies to develop standards based on the ‘10 Principles for Forest Stewardship’ by which responsible forest practice can be measured.
